Like most health and fitness issues, the subject of supplementation stirs up its share of discussion. I take supplements because I feel better and am convinced that food alone won’t meet all my body's nutritional needs. I am over 40 and very active. Couple that with a below average overall caloric intake equals the need to supplement with vitamins, minerals, and protein drinks. The way I figure it, most people who are involved in regular exercise and restricting their calories some what will generally find it favorable to add some or many supplements to their fitness and nutrition programs. Experiment and find out for yourself. Remember that if the vitamin or mineral supplements you are taking are water soluble, taking more than your body requires will result in the extra passing through your body in your urine. If you exercise and aren’t able to eat all the food you want - look into supplementing.
